Zak and Emily Hudson, the actress’ children, sent a statement to the Associated Press on January 30 that read, “The departure of our wonderful, humorous mother, Cindy Williams, has given us immeasurable grief that cannot be adequately described.” “Knowing and loving her has been a blessing and a joy for us. Everyone adored her because she was one-of-a-kind, attractive, generous, and had a wonderful sense of humour and sparkling enthusiasm.

According to Williams’ family, the California native passed away on January 25 following a battle with an unidentified illness.

In the 1970s, Williams is best remembered for starring in American Graffiti by George Lucas and The Conversation by Francis Ford Coppola. She proceeded to build her reputation by portraying Shirley in the Happy Days spin-off Laverne & Shirley, starring with Penny Marshall from 1976 to 1983.

The Golden Globe nominee subsequently landed roles in television series such as Getting By, Strip Mall, Girlfriends, The Odd Couple, and A Christmas Dream. Williams made her final cinematic appearance in the 2018 film Waiting in the Wings: Still Waiting.

TIn 1982, the former Room 222 star wed Bill Hudson of the Hudson Brothers. The couple, who had daughter Emily and son Zachary, ended their relationship in 2000.

Williams previously revealed how she handled the parts that gave her a household name, telling The Los Angeles Times in 1993, “When you can discover characters with attitudes that are in sync, they are entertaining and endearing to watch. You recognise aspects of yourself in the attitudes of the characters. Typically, the characters you portray in sitcoms are close to you. They are internal rhythms that you play exceptionally well.”

Williams also remarked at the time on how she remained true to herself despite her stardom. She said, “I come from such an ordinary background.” “There have been strange occasions in my life. I was a hippy throughout the 1960s. However, I’m basically a typical person. At bedtime, I enjoy going around the house and turning off all the lights. Sometimes I even return the hangers to the dry cleaners so that they can reuse them.”
