KK, a popular Indian singer, died at the age of 53 after performing at a concert in Kolkata.

Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, commonly known as KK, fainted during a concert in Kolkata and died at a private hospital in the city.

Singer KK, also known as Krishnakumar Kunnath, died this evening while performing in Kolkata (May 31). He was 53 years old.

After the show, the backup vocalist went into cardiac arrest and was transported to a nearby private hospital. According to hospital officials who spoke to India Today TV, he was “taken dead” to the CMRI Hospital in Kolkata about 10 p.m.

KK is one of India’s most versatile vocalists, having sung in Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Kannada, and Bengali, among other languages.

His wife and children are his only surviving relatives.

On Twitter, fans expressed their sorrow and disbelief at the abrupt passing of the artist.

“Tragic to hear about the passing away of KK after falling ill while performing in Kolkata. Another reminder of how fragile life is. Condolences to his family and friends. Om Shanti,” tweeted cricketer Virender Sehwag.
