Kathy Ambush is a well-known American volunteer and the ex-wife of attorney, judge, and Supreme Court Justice of the United States Clarence Thomas. With nearly 30 years of service, her ex-husband is the longest-serving member of the United States Supreme Court, making him the most senior associate justice on the court.
Before Thomas’s appointment to the Supreme Court, Kathy and Clarence Thomas divorced. Due to her association with a well-known individual in the United States, however, her story remains relevant in the contemporary context.

What Happened To Clarence Thomas First Wife?
In 1969, mutual acquaintances introduced Kathy and Clarence Thomas. Clarence attended the College of Holy Cross, while Kathy attended a nearby women-only college. A week after their initial meeting, Kathy and Clarence Thomas began dating.
They dated for two years during their college years. Then, on June 5, 1971, after Clarence’s graduation from school, they wed. Their wedding ceremony took place at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Worcester, Massachusetts. After their marriage, Kathy changed her last name to Thomas.
The couple then began their married life by relocating to New Haven, Connecticut. However, Clarence also relocated to New Haven in order to attend Yale Law School. Then, on February 15, 1973, Kathy gave birth to her first child, Jamal Adeen Thomas.
Clarence was granted exclusive custody of Jamal Adeen Thomas, who was an adolescent at the time of the couple’s breakup, when he was a teen. The son of Kathy Ambush is the Director of Supervision at John F. Van Der Hyde and Associates, a financial firm.

He has previously worked with Wells Fargo, Wachovia Securities, and BB&T Scott and Stringfellow, among others. Kathy and Clarence were married for many years. Sadly, they separated in 1981, and their divorce was formalised in 1984.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Thomas experienced financial and emotional difficulties. He even began drinking, which worsened with time. He frequently drank alone at home. His drinking became a problem in his marriage and led to its dissolution.
Clarence moved on following his divorce. In 1987, he wed lobbyist and assistant to Republican Congressman Dick Armey, Virginia Lamp. Kathy moved on as well. She married a man called Douglas Allen Smith after meeting him. As of 2022, she resides in Richmond, Virginia.
