Phythian and her husband, Victor Marke, both denied abusing a 13-year-old girl for three years starting in 2005.
According to the BBC, Zara Phythian, an actress who played a minor role in 2016’s “Doctor Strange,” and her husband Victor Marke have been accused of grooming and having sex with a 13-year-old girl for three years beginning in 2005.
The unidentified woman, who is now an adult, told police in an interview played for jurors at Nottingham Crown Court that the couple, who were not married at the time, filmed the majority of the abuse. Phythian and Marke, who were around 21 and 43 years old at the time, have been charged with 14 counts of sexual activity with a child. They have both denied the accusations.
A Phythian representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
At the time, Phythian and Marke were martial arts instructors, and the woman described the former as a role model due to her success in the field. According to her, the first offense occurred when the couple gave her alcohol and Phythian dared her to perform oral sex on Marke, who then had sex with both of them.
“I knew it was wrong, but I didn’t know how to get out of it or say anything,” she explained to the police. “At the time, I tried to mimic Zara’s reaction because I looked up to her and wanted to be like her in every way.”
The woman described Marke’s intimidation, including threats to smash her kneecaps if she reported the abuse. “He just said no one would believe me if I told them,” she explained. “They’ve always had sway over me.”
Marke is also facing four charges of indecently assaulting a child from another woman, who was 15 at the time of the alleged abuse. The abuse, she claims, occurred during Marke’s previous marriage, which ended when he began an affair with Phythian, who was also a minor at the time.
