The Rajya Sabha on Tuesday witnessed six adjournments due to protests by the Opposition parties over the alleged misuse of the CBI against them. Repeated disruptions by members of the Samajwadi Party, the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Rashtriya Janata Dal forced these adjournments.
Soon after the House resumed business, the protesting members gathered in the well of the House shouting slogans. This lead to adjournment till 2 p.m. The members ignored requests by Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu. They also held a sit-in.
The Opposition had reservations over the manner in which the government had brought in the proposal at the last minute.
Naidu stated “the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs decides the schedule of a session. It also stipulates the dates so proposed are subject to the exigencies of completion of the government’s legislative business.”
