During the English Vinglish 10th anniversary ceremony, director and producer Boney Kapoor, who was married to the late actress Sridevi, broke down and began crying while remembering his beloved wife.
The film “English Vinglish,” starring the late Sridevi, has reached a milestone: it has been 10 years since its release. To celebrate, director Gauri Shinde hosted a panel discussion in Mumbai, which was attended by Boney Kapoor, Khushi Kapoor, R Balki, and other notables from the film industry.
Boney Kapoor took the stage and began to speak passionately about the film and Sridevi, but he broke down in tears. Noting that he didn’t have much to add beyond thanking Gauri Shinde, he said as much.
You’ve seen everything wonderful that could happen to her and to us, and Balki was right when he said that the best thing was that this film actually happened to her and to us. I have no doubt that she is loved by all of her devoted followers. I miss her terribly, and I’m grateful to Gauri and Balki for their help.
R Balki consoled Boney Kapoor by holding him as the actor left the stage.
Sridevi’s renowned sarees will be auctioned off, with the money going toward the education of young women, as was announced as the panel came to a close.
Gauri, reflecting on Sridevi, remarked “A miracle in itself was getting to work with Sridevi while she was on sabbatical. Her presence was most noticeable even outside the range of the camera. The fact that she isn’t here with us today is still the saddest part. But it’s lovely to be here with the rest of the cast and crew, reminiscing about her and the film.”
Sridevi passed away on February 24th, 2018, while visiting family in Dubai.
Starring Adil Hussain, Mehdi Nebbou, and Priya Anand, the film was written and directed by Gauri Shinde; for the Tamil dub, Ajith Kumar takes over the parts originally played by Amitabh Bachchan.
