Goodbye hasn’t been getting much traction, and the box office receipts haven’t improved much. On Saturday, the film’s growth was limited to 1.35 crores*. Although this may look nice relative to the percentage increase from Friday’s 1 crore, it is barely something to brag about in absolute terms.
Actually, if the film was going to get anywhere, it needed to make at least 2 crores on Saturday to feel like it was making progress. A low goal like that would have at least given the movie something to go in.
It’s getting harder and harder for the Vikas Bahl-directed emotional drama to make an impression in theatres, especially with the kind of statistics that came in on Saturday.
The picture has earned a total of 2.35 crores* so far, which is less than what it should have made on the first day even at a minimum. The film’s current status, however, suggests that its opening weekend earnings are likely to be little more than 4.50–4.50 crores.
The opening weekend earnings of Amitabh Bachchan‘s previous release in which he played the lead role, Jhund, were 5.58 crores. However, Goodbye will not be able to make it there by Sunday night.
