The protagonist reaches a turning point when he learns information that goes against the conventions and beliefs he and his tribe have been taught to believe in. Because of this, he is able to see things in a new light, which gives him confidence and independence.
He discovers things he's not really supposed to know. Facts contradicting what the norms are believed to be. It changes his whole outlook, and he loves it. In secret, he experiments, and thrives, all because of his new discovery. But he knows he can tell no one.

With his newfound understanding, he is able to try new things and ultimately develop a positive outlook on life. However, at first, he does so covertly, thinking that the others won’t be able to deal with it or understand it. And yet, in spite of his best attempts, the others suspect that a change has occurred, which will be disclosed when he can no longer comply with the cultural standards imposed upon him.
Unfortunately, his revelation causes the locals to despise him. Thankfully, after this epiphany, he is able to better communicate himself to others, and they begin to recognize how unique and content Hiccup truly is. The rest of the tribe will come to see the significance of Hiccup’s evolution as they mature into their true selves.
