‘This particular research is pretty unique and we have not seen anything like this in the rest of the prior studies on corona,’ said Wenbo Li, associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at McGovern Medical School in Houston, USA, and main author of the study.

Scientists told that at the moment they cannot tell how SARS-CoV-2 affects our chromatin. This investigation, published in Nature Microbiology, describes how Covid-19 infection alters the chromatin structure of human cells.
Corona Changing Human Genes
Assistant Professor Wenbo Li from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, USA, said, “During the investigation, we discovered that the well-formed chromatin structure in a normal cell also gets chaotic following corona infection.”
Risk of Serious Illness
Patients with corona may also develop cytokine illness due to this cocktail’s ability to alter the expression of other genes, such as interleukin-6, a key gene in the inflammatory response.
Cytokines are a class of tiny proteins that regulate immune system cell growth and blood cell function.
Cytokine syndrome is a life-threatening illness characterized by a fast influx of large numbers of cytokines into the blood.
