On Thursday, Instagram started rolling out a major redesign to its interface that eliminated vertical scrolling. In place of this it introduced a horizontal feed that you tap through.
The users who had received the update quickly took to Twitter to express their displeasure about the change. Also, they started freaking out and posting to social media about the redesign.
However, it turns out that Instagram didn’t intend to roll out the update as widely as it did. Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri tweeted out an apology.
Instagram accidentally expanded the update to a wider set of users. Moreover, those who received the update reported that they were only be able to swipe left or right through photos. But they were not able to scroll up and down.
TechCrunch was the first to report about the redesign back in October. However,at that time, the authorities were only testing the feature internally and only on the app’s Explore page.
