The first time Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye LaValley ever met was at North Central University in Minneapolis in 1960. He immediately developed feelings for her. In April 1961, they both became addicted, and they later became travelling preachers.

They travelled the entire length of the nation before settling in North Carolina. They presided over “The PTL Club,” a late-night chat show, from 1974 to 1987.

Early  Life & Career

Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker began their careers in 1966 at Portsmouth, Virginia’s Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), founded by Pat Robertson. In the low thousands at the time, CBN had a modest audience. The Bakkers produced “Come on Over,” a children’s programme that featured humorous skits performed with puppets, and they aided the network’s expansion.

Come on Over’s success led Robertson to choose Bakker as host of The 700 Club, a brand-new prime-time talk show that eventually became CBN’s most watched programme. Following their departure from CBN in 1972, the Bakkers worked alongside Paul and Jan Crouch to launch the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) in California the following year.

However, the relationship between the two parties lasted only eight months before Jim Bakker and Paul Crouch got into a confrontation, which led to the Bakkers leaving the new network.

So, is Jim Bakker still alive? His ex-wife Tammy Faye died in 2007.

At North Central University in Minneapolis, Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye LaValley first crossed paths in 1960. They clicked right away, and by April 1961, they were married. They graduated from college and embarked on a cross-country journey as itinerant evangelists before arriving in North Carolina. There they made their late-night discussion show The PTL Club début, for which they have since gained notoriety.

Jim was completely fired as a preacher in 1987 following the failure of the evangelical theme park Heritage USA and other scandals, including the allegation that he had engaged in sexual misconduct. Jim and his family continued to be the subject of controversy, and in 1985, a classified IRS study revealed that the Bakkers had misappropriated $1.3 million in ministry funding for “personal profit” between 1980 and 1983.

PTL

The Bakkers quit TBN and relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, where they launched The PTL Club, their own late-night discussion programme, in 1976. In 1974, Bakker founded the PTL Satellite Network. It broadcast The PTL Club and other religious TV programmes via regional affiliates all around the United States.

Bakker constructed Heritage Village in the Carolinas in the 1970s to serve as PTL’s corporate headquarters. The Heritage USA theme park in Fort Mill, South Carolina, which eventually rose to become the third-most prosperous theme park in the US, was added to the ministry over time by the Bakkers.

It was estimated that viewers contributed more than $1 million per week, with the proceeds going toward expanding both the theme park and The PTL Club’s goals. Bakker responded, “I think that if Jesus were living today, he would be on TV,” when asked how he used the media.

Due to two crises in 1987, PTL disintegrated: first, church secretary Jessica Hahn accused Bakker of s**ual misconduct, which caused him to leave; second, he misused ministry funds in a way that was illegal, which landed him in jail. On May 6, 1987, Bakker was let go from his position as a minister for the Assemblies of God.

In the 1990 biographical television film Fall from Grace, which depicted Bakker’s ascent and fall, Kevin Spacey portrayed Bakker. Unfaithfully Yours was the title of a two-hour PTL scandal special that aired on ABC’s 20/20 programme on January 18, 2019.

All the Important Information About Jim Bakker

Is Jim Bakker Still Alive

Due to issues involving sexual misconduct, accounting fraud, and the demise of Heritage USA, a South Carolina-based Christian amusement park, Jim was forced to depart PTL Ministry in 1987. Jim and his family were charged with stealing $1.3 million from the ministry between 1980 and 1983 for their personal use.

Finally, he was found guilty and charged with fraud for promising naive people a three-night stay at Heritage USA’s opulent hotel in exchange for their purchase of “lifetime memberships” for $1,000 each.

Eight counts of mail fraud, fifteen counts of wire fraud, and one count of conspiracy were brought against Jim. Upon finding all 24 of the accusations against him to be true, the judge sentenced him to 45 years in federal prison and a $500,000 fine.

Later, Jim’s sentence was reduced from life in prison to eight years, and after serving five years, he was released. He had a $4 million debt to the IRS. Jim and Tammy Faye requested to terminate their marriage in 1992.

In 1998, he tied the knot with Lori Beth Graham. He founded Morningside Church Productions Inc. and returned to television in 2003 as the host of The Jim Bakker Show, a daily programme.

Jim Bakker is still a living, breathing person. He suffered a stroke in May 2020, according to a post on Instagram that was updated by the official Jim Bakker Show account.

Due to the following, it was observed that several individuals were checking his status on social media.

In May 2020, Lori Bakker, his wife, revealed that Jim had suffered a stroke. She said that Jim suffered a stroke as a result of working constantly for so long and being furious about being sued. Jim Bakker demonstrated supplements manufactured with colloidal silver that were purported to be coronavirus-cure during the coronavirus outbreak.

In reality, other websites said that Bakker had passed away. Despite the recent passing of his ex-wife Tammy Faye Bakker, Jim Bakker is still alive. Given that she got a divorce from Bakker in 1992, it is extremely odd that they continue to use Bakker as the last name.

She tied the knot with Roe Messner in 1993. Her last name changed to “Messner” after she was married because she was now a married woman. When she was 65 years old, she passed away from cancer in 2007.

We hope that our tale demonstrated that Jim Bakker is still in good physical and mental health. Watch for more articles like this one on TheTealMango.
