In order to form an anti-BJP front, top Opposition leaders lead by Mamata Banerjee formed the “Mahagathbandhan” for the upcoming Lok Sabha pollls. The “United India” rally in Kolkata held on Monday discussed about the grand alliance to take on the saffron party.
Among the leaders gathered, were the Chief Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy of Karnataka, Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi, N. Chandrababu Naidu of Andhra Pradesh. Apart from them, leaders like former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, former Chief Ministers Akhilesh Yadav , Sharad Pawar, Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah , Gegong Apang were also present.
However, it is unclear whether the Congress will be a part of the Mahagathbandhan. Rahul Gandhi had failed to attend the rally. Instead he chose to send Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge.
In response to this rally PM Modi said that the mahagathbandhan is not just against the BJP, but the people of India. Addressing a gathering at Silvassa, PM Modi called the mahagathbandhan “a combine of those he prevented from looting India.”
He claimed that BJP has only one MLA at Bengal “but still they are so afraid of us because we follow the path of truth that they have gathered parties from across the country and are crying ‘bachao, bachao, bachao’ (save us)”.
