The Gujarat high court on Thursday dismissed a request of by previous legislator Ehsan Jafri’s widow, Zakia Jafri, testing the clean chit given by a Supreme Court-designated Special Investigation Team (SIT) in 2012 to then Gujarat boss priest Narendra Modi and other best government officials and civil servants in the 2002 mobs that cleared the state.
The court has not acknowledged Ms Jafri’s affirmation of ” a larger conspiracy” behind the uproars. Zakia Jafri’s better half Ehsaan Jafri, a Congress pioneer, was one of 69 individuals murdered by agitators who assaulted Gulbarg Society in Ahmedabad on 28 February 2002.
Jafri and human rights activist Teesta Setalvad’s NGO Citizen for Justice and Peace pointed the finger at Modi and 57 others for their affirmed inaction amid the Gujarat riots.
Then, independently, an exceptional court in June 2016 discovered 24 individuals blameworthy regarding the 2002 Gulbarg Society slaughter. While 11 were sentenced kill, 13 were discovered liable of lesser offences, including revolting. The court vindicated 36 individuals, including a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor and a police investigator, while holding that the Gulbarg Society slaughter “was not a pre-arranged scheme”.
Zakia Jafri, 79, had moved to the high court in March 2014 against a lower court decision tolerating the SIT’s report, which inferred that the Chief Minister Modi found a way to control the mobs that cleared through Gujarat after mentors of the Sabarmati Express prepare were set burning at Godhra station in the state, slaughtering 59 individuals.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
It is a big relief for PM Narendra Modi specially at this moment when the whole opposition is attacking him daily and has strengthened his “personal space” of politics just ahead of the coming assembly and further Lok Sabha elections as now he will use this token from the court as a proof that he was victimised even being the Prime Minister and he has passed the test of purity coming out innocent and having a frustration is anti-Modi camp who has received a big blow in to their “hate Modi agenda” as they will have to either keep quiet, say we respect the court or to be a bit faking aggressive – SC has not acquitted him yet, we will fight till the end and nothing else for them to say. They wished they had received a good news and the camp leader Congress Party could have used this in the coming Gujarat elections but it is not going to happen at least this time!
