The Men in Blue led by skipper Virat Kohli have managed to draw the first blood in the ODI series. The game looked pretty comfortable under India’s victory limits from the first instant. Instead what came as a shock, was India losing those 2 wickets of Dhawan and Kohli in the battle that ensued. Kuldeep Yadav and Rohit Sharma were sentinels in their performance. So, without wasting a second further, let’s hop onto the 1st ODI Team India player ratings.
Eng vs Ind,1st ODI Team India player ratings
Shikhar Dhawan – 3/10
He might have gotten the team off to a flying start, by smacking the English unit for 40 odd runs in mere 27 deliveries. It was highly unfortunate for him to have lost his wicket to Moeen Ali.
Rohit Sharma- 9/10
Undoubtedly, without his presence in the middle, the outcome that we know might have been a bit different. He is perhaps going through the form of his life, as is quite visible from the consistency in his play across the ODI and T20 format of the game. No comment on tests though.
His 18th ODI hundred came at just the right moment, to give the Indian unit an upper hand over the Englishmen in this much-anticipated competition.
Virat Kohli – 8/10
Virat Kohli’s decision of batting at number 3 position yet again turned out to be match-winning one for the Indian team. He came onto the crease when the left arm explosive opener Shikhar Dhawan fell for 40 in his 27 deliveries and was instrumental in anchoring the innings from one end.
KL Rahul- 2.5/10
The Karnataka lad was expected to bat up the order. Perhaps, Kohli made a right choice after all. He played a highly defensive knock of 9 out of 18 deliveries that he faced. It looked as if he wanted his colleague to finish off the game.
Suresh Raina- 2/10
Raina might not have displayed some batting finesse in the battle, yet, he looked quite competent with the ball, as he delivered 3 overs and conceived mere 8 runs in the process.
MS Dhoni- 2/10
Well, not much could be said about the Indian legend. People had expected him to get past the 10,000 run mark in yesterday’s contest. It seems, they would have to wait a bit longer to witness him in action. He was instrumental in only 1 dismissal in the game and didn’t receive any chance to display his batting prowess.
Hardik Pandya- 1.5/10
Following a whacking match-winning performance, in the final game of the T20 contest, he failed to match up to audience’s expectations in the 1st ODI duel. His 47 in 7 overs, is also one of the sole reasons why England managed to notch up a challenging total. Had he been a bit more conscious on his bowling, things would have eased up for his batting unit.
Umesh Yadav- 1/10
As expected, Umesh Yadav had a shitty day at work. One could expect him to deliver such performances on 8 out of 10 occasions. Luckily, he didn’t go wicketless, else things would have turned ugly for him before the 2nd ODI contest.
Sidharth Kaul- 1/10
Coming in as a replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah didn’t go as expected for the newcomer to the Indian dressing room. He wasn’t able to give breakthrough, nor was he able to vaporise the run rate. His 10 overs 62 proved fatal for the Indian team to some extent.
Kuldeep Yadav- 10/10
Team India’s weapon of destruction was on a roll in the 1st ODI game. His 25/6 helped the Men in Blue, to decimate the English unit to a devastating low total. Hats off to Kuldeep for his match-winning effort!
Yuzvendra Chahal- 3/10
Chahal had a devastating day at work. Kuldeep’s spin partner to be smacked for 51-1 in his spell of 10 overs, wasn’t a pleasing sight for the Indian team, as well as for the Indian audience, considering his top-notch performances in the white ball cricket in a recent couple of years.
Well, the 1st ODI Team India player ratings might differ a bit in the 2nd and 3rd contests. Stay tuned!
