We all grew up with the notion that “Cricket is a gentleman’s game” and the dignity of the game must be maintained at at any cost. But , in the recent times, cricket has been looked upon as the Game of cheaters. Probably , this is one sport which has seen massive rise in the number of cheaters , fixers , controversial creators over the period of time.
Let’s look at the 4 biggest cheaters the cricketing world has ever seen.
Why isn’t anyone surprised by his name in the list of the biggest cheats in the history of cricket ? David Warner, the mastermind behind the Sandpaper gate scandal is the latest entrant to this list.
He has been the instigator of many on-field and off-field controversies . He has often been involved in many verbal feuds , brawls with the opposition players. His infamous punch to Joe Root during the 2013 Champions trophy resulted in Warner getting sacked from the squad.
Warner’s career hit rock bottom by his scandalous activities in the ongoing South Africa test series. In the 1st test match , he got involved in heated verbal exchange with De Kock and was fined 75 percent of his match fee for that incident.
But what really angered the cricket fraternity was his involvement in the Sandpaper gate scandal. Being the mastermind behind that incident cost him his dream of leading the kangaroos in future. It tarnished Cricket Australia’s image in front of the cricket world.

He is Pakistan’s official entry into the cheaters list. Salman Butt was involved in only one controversy throughout his career. A controversy of such a high magnitude that completely demolished his career. His action, stained Pakistan’s image in front of cricketing fraternity.
Salman was considered to be one of the best players Pakistan has produced . He seemed to be a promising lad who could take Pakistan cricket to new heights. Unfortunately , in his 2nd series as a captain , he got involved in a controversy that completely shook the cricketing world.
It was in the 4th test at Lords, Salman , Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Amir were involved in conveying match related information to the bookies in exchange for huge sums of money. All 3 were banned by the ICC , with Salman ,being the captain ,for 10 years . He was also sentenced to an imprisonment of 30 months in London.
This was the first incident when any international cricket player was sent to jail for his involvement in match fixing.

Talk about controversies surrounding Indian cricket and you would find Sreesanth’s name at the top. He is undoubtedly the most controversial Indian cricketer till date. His on field and off filed behavior has also been a subject of criticism.
The controversies started way back in 2006 , on India’s tour to South Africa. He was fined for his actions against Hashim Amla and Andre Nel. In 2007, he was fined for giving a shoulder push to Michael Vaughan during the course of the game.
But he is infamously known for carrying out the match fixing activities in 2013 edition of IPL. This incident ended his cricketing career. Along with his Rajasthan Royals teammate, Ankeet Chavan , Sreesanth was banned by BCCI for the rest of his life.
Sreesanth’s match fixing scandal is the biggest controversy in the history of Indian cricket till date.

The West Indian team is quite famous for their aggressive and entertaining piece of performances . They are also considered as one of the nicest players to have ever played the game. West Indians are someone who enjoye the game to the core, be it at the domestic level or at any international level.
However , Marlon Samuels seems to be one exception. Throughout his career , he has been at the center of controversies and scandals. He has a list of controversies under his name which gets him on this list of greatest cheaters of all time.
In 2008, Samuels was found guilty for leaking away the match and pitch conditions to the bookies . Indian police released a transcript of his conversations with the bookies. He has also been involved in many verbal feuds with the English all rounder Ben Stokes.
But his on field spat with the legend Shane Warne during the 2013 BBL was probably the biggest controversy he was involved in. When Samuels arrived for batting, he was physically and verbally assaulted by Shane Warne. Samuels had prevented David Hussey from taking singles by pulling off his short which did’t go well with Warne.
Samuels threw his bat in the air which led to his suspension from the tournament. Probably it is the worst moment in history of Big Bash League.
