England spinner Adil Rashid might have a strong chance of making a comeback to the Test Squad in the 5-match series against the Men in Blue. Following a successful 3-match ODI series, Adil Rashid became an overnight sensation on his home soil, after he delivered the ball of the series to knock out an in-form Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
It was about time he made a comeback to the England test team. His last test performance was against the Men in Blue, back in England’s tour to India in 2016 and since then he has remained out of the test option.
The 30-year-old’s white ball prowess proved instrumental behind England’s victory over the number 2 ranked ODI team in the World. After a 2-1 loss at the hands of India in the T20i series, England needed to ensure a victory at any expense to prevent the crowd’s anger being burst onto them.
It was quite fortunate for the English unit to have managed a 2-1 victory in the ODI series, courtesy some top-notch performances from Adil Rashid, skipper Eoin Morgan, Joe Root and Mark Wood.
Adil Rashid’s Test Recall on cards, says Trevor Bayliss
Trevor Bayliss seems to be highly impressed by Rashid’s performance. He feels that the 30-year-old has a strong chance of making it to the Test XI following his exploits against the Indian unit.
“This year is probably the best we have seen him bowl. he has bowled well in one day cricket over the last few years but his control and his consistency this year has been top class and probably the best I have seen him bowl since I have been here,” says the England coach.
Adil Rashid hints to make a comeback real soon
Even Adil Rashid gave a hint on his test recall following the stupendous ODI series.
“I made the decision earlier this year to focus on playing white ball cricket to see how it felt but always knew that if I found I was missing red ball cricket then I would go back to it. So if the selectors come and show faith in me then I would consider it, whatever role they want me to do,” said Rashid when asked by the sky sports officials.
Not only Rashid but the hard-hitting England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler too has a strong chance of making it to the playing XI against the Indian unit. His hammering knock against Pakistan in the decider game of the 2-match test series helped the hosts ensure a 1-1 draw on their home.
Looks like India would be in for a big trouble in the upcoming Test series. How they’d manage to ensure a victory or a save from the pitiable defeats is something only time can tell.
