Indian team’s previous tours to Australia
By the end of 2018 , the Men in blue will embark on their journey to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar trophy. In 2014, when India toured Australia, they had to face a series defeat of 2-0 ,with Steve Smith emerging as the leading run scorer of the series.
Smith had a terrific run in that series , scoring 4 back to back hundreds in the 4 match series . Smith, being the tormentor for the Indian side, amassed 769 runs in those 4 test matches . He had ripped apart the Indian bowling lineup , feasted on the some of the top Indian bowlers and had left them clueless .
The men in blue failed to find any flaw in his batting technique. And not to forget ,David Warner’s aggressive piece of batting was the icing on the cake. Smith and Warner had rendered the men in blue completely helpless before the World Cup.
Even in the 2015 World cup semi finals between India and Australia , Smith hammered a match winning century to take Australia towards their 5th World cup title.
Indian team tried their level best to bounce back from those crushing defeats, but all their efforts were in vain. There was nothing they could do to prevent Smith from bashing them.
Now, that Smith and Warner are nowhere in the scene, the Indian team has a strong chance to go for a series victory in Australia.
Since 2000, the Men in blue have won only twice on their tours to Australia . In the 11 previous trips to Australia ,India has managed to draw the series 3 times and ended up on the losing side 8 times.
With the absence of Warner and Smith, there will be many new faces in the Australian side.
India’s tour of Australia
The pressure would be now onto players like Peter Handscomb, Matt Renshaw, Mitchell Marsh to win matches for Australia. Though they all might have had some experience against India, still, it won’t be easy for them to stop the current Indian side from ensuring a series victory.
At present, team India has the best bowling lineup in the world. Ashwin, Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav leading the spin department. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar , Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah forming the lethal fast bowler trio.
But the Indian players would have to play some terrific cricket in England pitches if they want to remain in good touch before the start of the Border-Gavaskar series.
At the same time, one must not overlook the bowling Australian team possess. With Mitchell Starc going through the form of his life , Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins bacing him up, along with Nathon lyon as their team’s lead spinner , it would also be challenging for the Indian batsmen to score runs against a quality bowling lineup like that of Australia’s.
And not to forget the advantage of home conditions that Australia will receive. That may put the pressure back on the Indian side. So all in all, it would be interesting to see how this tour of Australia proves beneficial for the Indian side.
