India vs England series is perhaps the most talked series among the cricket fans at the moment. The kind of cricket both the teams have exhibited in their last 2 games has been just fantabulous. As a result, there have been some massive changes in the Indian player ratings following their loss against a comparatively stronger England unit.
The hosts after having sent their Ashes counterparts for a 5-0 whitewash entered the captivating competition against the Men in Blue as the top favourites to lift the series trophy.
Unfortunately, Indian team led by the skipper Kohli had some plans of their own. They notched up a mesmerizing win in their 1st T20i game against the England unit and were eyeing for a must-win in the series decider game at Cardiff which slipped into England’s favour. Tough luck for captain Kohli!
In the 2nd game at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, England’s decision of opting to bowl first proved as a blessing for them. The home team was successful in dismissing the lethal batting duo of Rohit and Dhawan and the dangerous match-winner KL Rahul.
Without Dhoni and Kohli’s match building innings, probably the Men in Blue would have posted a far pitiable total. Nevertheless, the hosts managed to get the better of the visitors as England’s version of Rohit Sharma, Alex Hales, unleashed a Hale storm of 41 balls 58 to steer his side to a victory.
let’s have a look at the Indian player ratings post the intriguing contest of India vs England
Shikhar Dhawan- 3/10
He is known as the Gabbar of Indian cricket, unfortunately, had his lips sealed in highly anticipated decider game of the series. You can’t expect players with the prowess and experience of Dhawan to throw away their wickets in such horrendous runout fashions.
Hitman’s inability to play against the swinging deliveries, especially when facing the newer ones in the foreign conditions were exploited to the optimum. Apart from his 3-200s, there seems to be absolutely nothing special about this Mumbai based cricketer.
KL Rahul- 2/10
He was expected to emulate his last game’s heroics and help India clinch the series decider. Unfortunately, he failed miserably.
Virat Kohli- 6/10
He was perhaps the lone warrior in the neck to neck contest when the Men in Blue were under some gruelling situation. Without his 47 of 38 deliveries, India would have surely faced a brutal death at the hands of England unit.
Suresh Raina- 4/10
His comeback into the squad hasn’t been that fruitful for the team. Chances are that he would be dropped in the coming series if he fails to notch up some humongous scores under his belt.
MS Dhoni- 6/10
The birthday boy’s calm and composed demeanour elevated the team from putting up a dismal total. His assault of 22 runs in the last over against Jake Ball is the reason Indian bowlers were able to take the game to the final moments.
Hardik Pandya 3/10
When was the last time his presence actually bore any fruit for the team? Apart from 4-5 instances in all 3 formats in total, he has really been a flop show for the Indian team.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar – 4/10
He might have received the bashing of Alex Hales in the final overs, the fact that he bowled pretty well in the powerplay to dry up the run rate helped the team to take the game in their favour to some extent.
Umesh Yadav – 7/10
He was undoubtedly the best bowler for the Men in Blue in the last game. His attack on the opening pairs put the pressure back on the hosts, backed by a terrific penultimate over made the day for Indian fans.
Yuzvendra Chahal 3/10
The spin wizard had a decent day at the English soil, as he picked up a single wicket in the process of giving away 28 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav 2/10
He might have bowled an extraordinary first over, which did manage to choke the England unit to some extent. He would have expected to replicate his previous game’s performances, but his efforts went in vain, as the English unit got the better of him in the remaining overs.
The outcome that we know would have been slightly different, had the players exhibited some content with their performances. The Indian player ratings would have been quite different if only Kohli’s men had ensured a much-needed victory.
