India’s loss at the hands of England in the decider game of the ODI series was indeed a shock for all the Indian fans across the globe. After securing a 1-0 lead in the 3 match ODI series, cricketing pundits had predicted India’s 3-0 victory over the hosts, in the riveting contests that were about to get unraveled. Perhaps, the team India ODI Squad had become a bit too complacent with their little victory.

India lost the games in succession owing to a poor batting lineup, which raised a plethora of questions on Dhoni’s scoring inability, the middle order conundrum, opener duo’s failure, with Kohli yet again being the lone warrior for the Indian unit amidst all the dismal performances.

His scores of 75, 45 and 71 in the three consecutive contests might have made him the leading run scorer for the Men in Blue, but those weren’t enough to secure a win in the deciding event. The discontent of losing both the games from crucial situations was inevitably visible on Kohli’s face, as he straightaway mentioned the team’s inability to score the needed runs, sighting the lack of right balance as a probable reason.

Following their ODI loss at the hands of England, team India would have to resolve some major issues on their side before they take on the Englishmen in the  5-match test series. While some new entrants could be seen donning the whites in the upcoming contests, some would surely lose their place from Team India ODI squad following their defeat in the contest.

The left arm batsman wasn’t been very fruitful with the bat in the recently concluded series against England.

Brought in as a replacement for Ambati Rayudu, Raina was expected to solidify the middle order with his presence, at the same time, bowl in few deliveries as a part-timer to assist the team with crucial match-turning wickets.

Unfortunately, neither was he able to contribute runs from the middle nor did he appear as a handy bowling option.

In the 1st ODI, he didn’t get a chance to bat, owing to Rohit’s single-handed attack over the English bowling unit. In the 2nd game, he was the leading run scorer for the Men in Blue, as he managed to score 46 of 63 deliveries while chasing a mammoth 326, only to see his efforts go in vain.

Raina’s performance in the 3rd ODI was perhaps an absolute disappointment, considering his experience of playing over 200 games in white ball cricket, yet not being able to anchor the innings from one end.

His departure for mere a single run of four deliveries in the decider contest sealed off his chances of being any further with the Indian team.

Umesh Yadav

The Indian pacer is perhaps the senior-most individual amongst the bowling unit. His inclusion into the squad was strictly based on his stellar IPL 2018 performances while playing for RCB.

Moreover, his inclusion into the playing XI for merely because of Bumrah and Bhuvaneshwar’s exit owing to finger and back injuries respectively. It was a golden chance for Umesh to strike hard on the Englishmen and seal a place in the limited overs cricket.

What he dished out in the middle was perhaps some of his worst performances till date. his inconsistency in putting the balls under the right areas cost him a barrage of runs on a frequent basis. He wasn’t very clinical in taking wickets either.

Siddharth Kaul

The debutant is surely not going to make a comeback anytime soon till the 2019 World Cup unless some unforeseen events compel Kohli to bring him back in the middle.

He had an unforgettable debut ODI series and perhaps one of the weakest entry level performances in the white ball cricket off late for the Men in Blue. Neither did he take any wickets in the ODI series, nor was he able to conceal the outflow of runs.

Siddharth’s inclusion into the team was strictly based on his consistent IPL performances over the past 3 seasons, where he had carved a name for himself as a death over specialist. Unfortunately, his bowling prowess was nowhere to be seen in the English pitches against some of the most lethal batsmen of the present generation.
