Glenn Maxwell turned out to be a bad investment for the Delhi based franchise. IPL 2018 turned out be a disaster for Glenn Maxwell and also for the Delhi Daredevils. Not even once , was Maxwell able to cross the 50 run mark in this IPL edition.
The Delhi franchise paid a hefty sum of Rs 9 crores to bring in Maxwell which now looks like a brainless decision on their part. In 10 games that Maxwell played , he could amass only 142 runs at a paltry average of 14. Prior to IPL, Maxwell game some stellar performances in T20is and other T20 tournaments across the World.
Back in 2014 ,he was a match winner for KXIP on many occasions when he single handedly took the team to the IPL finals. Unfortunately , he failed to emulate those in this season of IPL.
let us look at 3 cricketers whom the Delhi Daredevils could have roped in for instead of Glenn Maxwell
The left arm Australian batsman has been one of the most successful overseas player in the history of IPL. In 71 matches , he amassed 2477 runs at a decent strike rate of 133 with an average of 40 . He has 20 fifties and an IPL century under his belt as well. These stats are sufficient to describe his potential as a T20 player.
He would have been the perfect replacement for Maxwell in the IPL auctions. Plus, the experience of T20 cricket that Marsh possess would have been an advantage for the DD. He could have been the backbone of Delhi Daredevils batting unit. He was the leading run scorer in the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008.
Without an iota of doubt, Ross Taylor is one of the finest players New Zealand has ever produced. Over the years, he has become a stalwart of the game for New Zealand in all the formats of the game – ODI, Test , T20is. He has played around 50 games in IPL and has scored more than 1000 runs till date.
Ross Taylor has been in around 245 T20 games and amassed 5426 runs at a strike rate of 133.48 and maintained an average of 31. His current form in ODI cricket is something worth applauding. He averages 88 in the last 11 games that he has played with scores of 45*, 52, 1, 59 , 113, 10 , 181. If he had been a part of DD, he surely could have turned the tables in DD’s favour.
Luke Ronchi was in terrific form in the concluded PSL (Pakistan Super League ) where he emerged as the leading run scorer of the tournament. His stats speak about the tremendous potential that Luke possess. In 11 games , he scored 435 runs at an average of 43.5 along a jaw dropping strike rate of 182 !
He has played 161 T20 games till date at an average of 25 and a strike rate of 157 . Unfortunately , he doesn’t get the appreciation he deserves. Ronchi is someone who can bat at any order and smack the ball over the fence with his aggressive dominating style of cricket.
With his current form at PSL , he would have been a perfect fit for the Delhi Daredevils. If only the franchises put more faith in him , Ronchi would have turned out to be a match winner on many occasions.
