Brad Hodge opens up regarding the poor performances of KXIP

KXIP head coach Brad Hodge admits the team’s over reliance on couple of bowlers and top order batsmen as one of the reasons for their poor performances.

The Punjab based franchise desperately need a miracle to happen that might give them a chance to secure a seat for the playoffs.

In the first half of the tournament,  KXIP was one of the top contenders for the top 2 position in the points table .

Somewhere in the middle, they lost the momentum and now are on the verge of being knocked out from the tournament. In the last 7 games , KXIP could register only 1 victory with 5 back to back losses that completely derailed them from the playoffs race.

They lost to Mumbai Indians by 3 runs at Wankhede and now need to win by a massive margin against CSK , not to forget their dependency on the results of other teams as well. Bowling unit led by Andrew Tye , Ashwin seemed to have done their job by restricting the opposition to a chaseable total.

KXIP couldn’t capitalize on the flyer starts provided by universe boss Chris Gayle and the orange cap holder KL Rahul. KL Rahul looked as the lone warrior for KXIP this season. Two of his knocks of 90 + came in for a losing cause, the latter one against MI where he scored 94 runs .

Yuvraj Singh struggled with the bat this season again and failed to register even a  single 50+ score for KXIP.Even Aaron Finch , who has been playing T20 cricket for a long period failed to provide any contributions from the middle.

Brad Hodge blames the middle order’s inconsistency for the poor performances

” I think realistically , our middle order hasn’t fired as much we would have expected and we are too reliant on a couple of bowlers who have kept us in the game ” said Hodge.

He also admitted the lack of consistency shown by the players throughout the tournament. ” We haven’t had consistency across the whole IPL , where when out match winners haven’t fired , nobody has been able to pick up the pieces ” said the head coach.

Hodge also mentioned that now they need to wait for other team’s results . ” It’s difficult. What we will be doing will be watching and waiting for the next 24 hours to see the results of the other games . We have unfortunately left ourselves in this position ” said Hodge.

” At halfway mark we were in a strong position but we have tight losses and now we are in position where we have to watch other teams but we will go about our business today in same fashion , and hope we get a chance tomorrow to make an impact ,” said the former Australian batsman.

When asked about Yuvraj’s failure as a batsman in current season , he said ” I am not here to determine what Yuvraj does after tomorrow , it’s completely in his hands. He must have played cricket , that is what cricket players do, so hopefully , he comes out and performs whether it’s tomorrow , next day or in years time , he is legend in Indian cricket . ”

Finally , he answered about Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman’s availability for tomorrow’s match. ” Mujeeb , I think we will test him out today and hopefully , he will be availanle for selection tomorrow.”
