After watching the group rivals France conceal a victory over Australia in the earlier match of the game, Denmark too decided they won’t be far behind and managed to give a highly intense battle against Peru thus ensuring a victory of 1-0 in the process. Denmark and Peru left no stone unturned in getting the better of the other and create opportunities to dominate what was a must-win game for both the sides.
Peru did manage to give Denmark a run for their money and tried to win the highly riveting contest but ultimately lost out to the opponents in the 59th minute of the game. Nevertheless, there few talking points in the engrossing battle that need a spotlight.
Let’s have a look at the 3 key points of the game between Denmark and Peru
Denmark’s only goal by Poulsen gave them the upper hand
It has been only a couple of days since the start of the World Cup and the teams are charging in on one other like a do or die situation. Following France’s victory over Australia, their group mates Denmark also decided to level up themselves and went all guns blazing over the rivals Peru.
Peru might have given some headaches to Denmark during the course of the game, but eventually lost the match to Denmark’s Yussuf Poulsen in the second half of the game which paved them to a victory.
Once Denmark settled themselves in the contest, they started dispensing some terrific passes and the way they handled the South American rivals was just amazing. Their passes were way too perfect which helped Poulsen to gain an upper hand over Peru by smacking the ball into the nets
Failed penalty kick cost Peru a much-needed win
It might look like Peru had the upper hand over Denmark in the game, but, if you look at the statistics you would observe that they were nowhere near Denmark in creating match-winning opportunities for themselves.
While Peru had 5 shots on the target which equaled the shot Talley of Denmark, they had one extra shot in the form of penalty which could have turned the game in their favor. The outcome would have been slightly different if Christian Cueva’s shot hadn’t missed out on that opportunity.
Though Peru still has chances to go beyond the group stages if they win their upcoming match against France, still, this victory would have oozed them from the pressure of the next games and would have kept them in the race till the knockout stages.
Kasper Schmeichel’s brilliance with the gloves
Kasper Schmeichel gave a terrific display of goalkeeping ability when he managed to stop 6 shots of Peru and saved the game for the team. He has truly been a rock solid defence for the team and again proved why he is one of the most reliable keepers at the moment.
Schmeichal had Peru on his doorsteps throughout the game and each they appeared, the 31-year-old managed to shoo them off on every single occasion. But, the outcome that we know would have been a bit different if he had not saved the team from the penalty of Christian Cueva.
Though Denmark has entered the tournament as the underdogs, it won’t be a surprise that they turn out as a party spoiler for any higher ranked team and crush their dreams of reaching the next stages.
