RCB will be expected to go all guns blazing in their royal faceoff with the Rajasthan Royals. The royal clash will permanently seal one team’s fate in this edition of IPL. The Bangalore based franchise would be eyeing for a victory with a good margin to ensure their position in the playoffs. The kohli led team has certainly come a long way , considering at one point they were at the bottom of the table .
With players like AB de Villiers , spin wizard Yuzvendra Chahal , the bowling duo of Umesh and Tim Southee, RCB would want to go for an all out attack against the RR unit .
RR on the other hand , would be finding it hard to fill the void created by Stokes and Buttler’s departure. With the duo nowhere in the picture, RR skipper Rahane would want to work out some miracle to turn the stars in their favour.
let’s have a loot at the 4 player faceoffs that might surface in RCB vs RR battle of royals
Tim Southee vs Rahul Tripathi
The Rajasthan team is short of quality players at the moment. Now that the dangerous duo of Buttler and Stokes have left the franchise for the national duty, all eyes would be on Rahul Tripathi to go for some scintillating knocks in powerplay overs.
He was a consistent performer for the RPS last season which led to RR buying him at a decent Rs 3.4 crores in this edition. On the other hand, Tim Southee will be keen on choking down the RR top order from scoring any runs. He would aim at ripping apart the Batting lineup and decimate the RR unit to a low total.
It would be interesting to see as to who might get the better of whom in the battle between Southee and Tripathi.
Ajinkya Rahane vs Umesh Yadav
RR skipper, Ajinkya Rahane has failed yet again this season in putting up good totals for the team. He hasn’t been in good touch with the bat this edition , something which has been a concern for the franchise.
In 13 matches, he has played with a strike rate of mere 120.74 and an average of 26.45 . Rahane would be expected to play a captain’s innings that might keep RR in the hope of playoffs . He would have to elevate his game and take on the attack against the RCB bowling unit comprising of Indian pacer Umesh Yadav.
Umesh Yadav seems to have matured as a bowler in this IPL . He has been instrumental in taking quick wickets of the oppositon unit in the powerplay overs. In 13 matches, he has taken 17 wickets at an economy of less than 8 an over. How Rahane anchors the innings against the swinging deliveries of Yadav might be a treat for the fans of both the franchise.
AB de Villiers vs Jofra Archer
When the Superman gets going, he can single handedly demolish the bowling attack that may consist even the best in the World. Bowl him at any length, any pace , he will send the ball straightaway out of the park . He is perhaps one of the most dangerous T20 batsmen in the cricketing world at present.
A jaw dropping strike rate of 177.92 and an average of 53.37 gives a glimpse of the destruction he can cause when left loose. But there is one bowler from the RR side who can get the better of AB de villiers in today’s battle.
Jofra Archer is perhaps one of the best T20 bowlers of the world who can give in variations with the pace, bowl a bouncer , yorker and knows how to toy with the batsman. But taking on the legend himself, AB De Villiers might be a herculean task to pull off if not properly executed.
Yuzvendra Chahal vs Sanju Samsun
The young lad from Kerela has over the years grown as a player. The last time RCB faced RR, Samsun had punished the RCB bowling unit by smashing 92 of 45 ball . He had smacked the bowlers for 2 fours and 10 sixes . Though there was one bowler who went unaffected from his attack . Yuzvendra Chahal, had conceded only 22/2 in 4 overs that he bowled in that royal contest.
In 13 games, he has taken 12 wickets at an economy of 7.32 . The Bangalore based franchise would expect Chahal to curb the RR batting unit one last time in this knockout game.
