Rashid Khan the wonder-man from Afghanistan gave an all-round effort in taking his side to 13 run win over the rivals Kolkata Knight Riders in their home crowd in the Qualifier-2 and now will compete in a final faceoff with the kings of IPL- Chennai Super Kings on 27th May. The Afghani leg-spinner Rashid Khan not only played a highly explosive cameo with the bat ( 34 not out of 10 balls ) he helped the SRH to post a challenging total of 174/7 from a rocky start.
He then returned with a spell of 19/3 in his 4 overs and helped SRH plunge into the finals. Rashid also managed to take 2 vital catches at deep mid wicket in the last over and emerged as the performer of the day in the race of the finals.
KKR now had only 175 to chase and were off to a flying start as they scored 40 of 3.2 overs before the West Indian destructive batsman Sunil Narine vanished off in Siddharth Kaul’s over.
Narine might have scored only 26 of 13 runs nut by the time he got dismissed, he had set the platform for KKR’s victory. Chris Lynn looked in great touch with the bat as he started hammering down the Sunrisers bowling attack across the stadium.
Lynn along with Nitish Rana (22) started developing a partnership and yet continued with their destructive style of batting. Their carnage elevated KKR to a score of 81/1 in 8 overs.
Just when KKR felt they had complete dominance over the game, things started to crumble for them. The wickets started falling like a pack of cards.
Rashid Khan into the attack
Nitish Rana got dismissed in the 9th over, followed by the wicket of Robin Uthappa who again put up a dismal show. Rashid’s spell completely tore apart the KKR’s batting unit. He first dismissed Uthappa for mere 3 runs. Skipper Dinesh Karthik now came into the attack following his dismissal.
Shakib AL Hasan did the job this time for SRH as he got off the KKR skipper in the 12th over. Rashid Khan then flurried the KKR by getting the better of Chris Lynn. The Australian went for a sweep and in the process got plumbed when it was needed for him to stay in the middle.
Rashid now came an over later to get rid of the dangerous Russell. The aggressive all-rounder gave away his ticket by edging a googly to Shikhar Dhawan. KKR were now reduced to 118/6.
Piyush Chawla scored mere 12 runs of 12 which included a six and started putting up another partnership with young Shubhman Gill. Young Gill kept the Kolkata Knight Riders in the hunt with his 30 of 20 balls by hitting a boundary of the last ball of Siddharth Kaul’s over.
Now the equation was 19 of the last over. Shivam Mavi, the tailender hit Craig Braithwaite for a boundary of the first ball, before the duo of Mavi and Shubhman Gill got dismissed off on consecutive deliveries by the West Indian to completely crush the IPL dream for the hosts.
