England made a pretty disastrous start to the ODI contests in the 3 match series against Virat Kohli’s men. Following a terrible loss at the Indian hands in the T20 series, they were expected to deliver some scintillating cricket against the visitors in the 1st ODI duel. Highly unfortunate for the England team to let down the English audience, in what was a major opportunity to shred off the criticisms passed on to them. Here are the Team England player ratings after England’s dismal performance at Trent Bridge.
Team England player ratings following a loss against Indian unit
Jason Roy – 3/10
He got out to 38 of 35 deliveries, before being dismissed by the Indian chinaman Kuldeep. Roy looked pretty decent in the middle, but ultimately lost it out to Kuldeep’s devastating spin prowess. The openers had the Indian bowling attack under pressure in the first few overs, but ultimately had to surrender to the finesse of Indian spin wizard.
Jonny Bairstow – 3/10
Bairstow too failed to notch up a big inning for the Englishmen. The openers looked in terrific touch at the start of the contest. His century count and average seemed puny in front of Indian bowling attack in yesterday’s game. Cruising at a run rate of 6 per over, England must have eyed for a 300+ total in the nerve-wracking duel. Hopefully, Bairstow makes up for his mediocre performance in the next game.
Joe Root – 0.5/10
Considered among the fab 4 of international cricket, he has yet again failed to live up to the expectations. Something’s terribly wrong with Joe Root lately. He must work on his flaws before boucing back hard in the 2nd contest. His peformance could certainly elevate the England team from the pit of failures.
Eoin Morgan- 2/10
England skipper has been struggling throughout the series to put up some decent scores. His form has become a concern for the England unit.
Ben Stokes- 3.5/10
He looked like playing a test contest in the middle of an ODI game. Perhaps, he wasn’t aware of the format, and the requirements of the game. A shameful display of all-round prowess.
Jos Buttler – 6/10
Without his 51 balls 53, England team would have suffered a pitiable defeat. Even a score of 200 would have seemed impossible on board. Luckily, his presence put some pressure on the Indian bowling unit.
Moeen Ali- 2.5/10
His dismissal of Dhawan on some 40 odd runs to break the partnership, along with his 23 balls 24 runs knock kept the scoreboard ticking for the England unit.
David Willey- 1/10
Why did he play the game is the only question he would have asked himself, following the game’s end. Pathetic piece of all-round display.
Adil Rashid- 2.5/10
The right arm leg break managed to put up 22 runs on board with the bat, which helped his team reach off to a competing total of 268. He dismissed the Indian captain on 75, which could have turned into yet another hundred in the ODI format.
Liam Plunkett- 1/10
He might regret to have played in this game. Plunkett would have wished to have not been in the contest.
Mark Wood: 1/10
Perhaps, it is now time for Mark Wook to hang up his boots in the ODI cricket. Having conceded 55 runs in 6 overs without any wicket has put his career at stake.
