Google Contacts now has the “Google Illustrations” feature that was added to Gmail in September 2021 and allows you to create a custom profile picture.
At launch, this feature allowed you to upload a custom Google profile photo. It is available in Contacts for Android when editing any contact. The first tab adjacent to “Google Images” and “Device photos” is “Illustrations.”
The collections (animals, cities and locations, food, hobbies and interests, nature, and sports and recreation) remain unchanged, but Google has undoubtedly added to each subcategory since launch.
After selecting an image and entering the editor, there is a new “Quick cropping” option that emphasises interesting sections of an image. This feature combines the other colour tools that make Google Illustrations incredibly immersive.
This update to Google Contacts was implemented quite recently.
A few weeks ago, Google Messages launched a branded FAB (floating action button). “Start chat” is now complemented by the Message logo that Google employs for the Themed icon of the programme.
Regarding the app, A/B tests on the revamped photo picker, delivery/read indications, and reacting with any emoji have yet to be rolled out extensively, although group E2EE is becoming more accessible.
