Griffith was nominated for two Tony Awards and rose to prominence in Elia Kazan’s films A Face in the Crowd (1957) and No Time for Sergeants (1958) before being best known for his television performances as Andy Taylor and Ben Matlock on The Andy Griffith Show.

Griffith was unable to walk for the first seven months of his life after being diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome in April 1983. On May 9, 2000, he underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery at the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
Griffith, who resided in Dare County on the coast of North Carolina, died on July 3, 2012, at the age of 86, after suffering a heart attack at his Manteo Beach, Roanoke Island, home. Five hours after his death, he was interred in the island’s Griffith family plot.

Ron Howard
Ronald William Howard, born in Duncan, Oklahoma on March 1, 1954 to actors Rance and Jean Howard, debuted on The Griffith Show as Opie Taylor at the tender age of six. Years later, he played the almost as clean-cut adolescent Richie Cunningham on Happy Days to remove himself from the charming, innocent reputation he had created as a young Taylor.
Howard ultimately opted to leave his position as a writer and producer on the ABC sitcom in order to concentrate on filmmaking. Grand Theft Auto was an audience favourite, and his succeeding pictures from major studios, Splash and Night Shift, both performed well at the box office.
Parenthood, Apollo 13, and Ransom were successive successes for Howard. In 2002, when A Beautiful Mind won two Academy Awards, including Best Director, he expressed relief to TAF.
The film adaptation of Howard’s novel Hillbilly Elegy was published in 2020, and he just stated that he will act as executive producer on a documentary about the famed television chef Julia Child. Recent records indicate that Howard and his wife Cheryl have been married for 46 years.
Keith Thibodeaux
Keith Thibodeaux, who was born in 1950 in Louisiana and portrayed Opie’s best friend Johnny Paul Jason on the comedy, was not a key cast member. After completing his role as Little Ricky Ricardo on I Love Lucy and The Desi-Lucy Comedy Hour, he began making cameo appearances on Griffith almost immediately.
Thibodeaux, one of the few surviving original cast members, recently reflected on his time on The Andy Griffith Show, telling The Austin Chronicle, “Working on The Andy Griffith Show was a tremendous experience. The set was more laid-back and country… [than I Love Lucy]; the actors were essentially in character. Andy would play checkers with the makeup artist, and he would frequently play the guitar with the cast on his back. It was a terrific, straightforward set.”

Elinor Donahue is one of the show’s cast members who is now active in the world. Despite not being a permanent member of the show’s core ensemble, she played Andy Taylor’s first on-screen love interest during the pilot season of the comedy Griffith.
