Snapstreak is the only Snapchat function that helps keep people from leaving. Maintaining Snapstreaks is usually a big deal for most Snapchat users. Snapstreaks were made as an incentive for users to keep coming back and using the platform.
Because of this, it is a real shame when someone loses their Snapstreak because of things like server problems or app bugs. If you recently lost your streak with a close friend or significant other, here’s what you can do on Snapchat to get it back.
What is Snapchat Streak?
Snapstreaks, which is what most people call Snapchat Streaks, shows how often you talk to a Snapchat user. A Snapstreak starts when you and a friend send each other a snap at least once every 24 hours for more than 3 days in a row.
To be clear, text chats in the Snapchat app don’t count toward your Snapstreaks. If you don’t share a picture or video with a Snapchat friend or loved one within 24 hours, you’ll lose your Snapstreak.
When the streak starts, there will be a fire icon next to their name in the chat list. If you keep sending each other Snaps every day, a number will show up next to the fire emoji.
It shows your Snapstreak, which is the number of days you have been sending each other Snaps. For example, the number 58 in the picture above shows that the person has been sending Snaps to the recipient for almost 2 months.
If you don’t give the other person a snap within 24 hours, the streak ends. You do get a reminder to snap the other person in the form of an hourglass emoji. But you could also lose your Snapchat Streak if something goes wrong with the app or the network.
If you think you might have lost your Snapstreak by accident, Snapchat lets you file an appeal. Check out the next part to find out how to ask Snapchat to bring back your streak.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q. Is Snapchat Streak Truly Limited to 24 Hours?
Yes, you can only have a Snapstreak for 24 hours. You can’t keep the streak going by sending text messages in the chat. To keep your Snapstreak on Snapchat, you need to send and receive photos or videos within 24 hours.
Q. What Does the Hourglass Emoji Mean on Snapchat?
When you see an hourglass next to a fire emoji, it means that your Snapstreak with someone is about to end. To keep your Snapchat record going, you must send a photo or video to that person right away. If they see the hourglass emoji next to your name in the chat window, they also need to send you a snap back.
Q. How Long Does the Hourglass Emoji Last on Snapchat?
You have 24 hours to send and receive snaps on Snapchat and keep your Snapstreak going. But if you see an hourglass emoji next to someone’s name in your chat window, that means you have four hours left to send or receive a snap (a picture or video) from that friend on Snapchat.
If you don’t send each other Snapchats in the next four hours, the timer and fire emoji will go away, and your Snapstreak with that friend will end. Then, you’ll need to follow this guide to get your Snapchat streak back.
Q. Do I have to reply to a Snapchat streak?
Yeah, if a friend or loved one sends you a snap that says “Streak on” or “Streak alive,” you should always send a snap back to keep the Snap streak going. If you’ve already sent a snap, don’t pay attention to the message. They’re just trying to keep the run going. If not, you can keep the Snapchat run going by replying with a picture or a video.
Q. Can one person keep a Snapchat streak alive?
No, on the texting app, one person can’t keep a Snapstreak going. To keep the streak going on Snapchat, both people must send a snap (a picture or video) to each other at least once every 24 hours, or once a day.
Q. How Long Does It Take to Restore a Snapstreak?
Usually, it takes the Snapchat team about 24 hours to respond to a request to bring back a Snapstreak. They will then let you know if your streak will be brought back or not.
If you missed a Snapstreak because of a server failure or a technical problem, it’s easy to get it back. Just make sure to send snaps and make it a habit to ask for Snapstreak recovery.
