It is a good news for the fans of hobbits and elves as the new Lord of the Rings Tv series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s book series has been given the green light at Amazon.
“’The Lord of the Rings’ is a cultural phenomenon that has captured the imagination of generations of fans through literature and the big screen. We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking The Lord of the Rings fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth,” Sharon Tal Yguado, Amazon Studios’ head of scripted series said in a statement published on Deadline.
The deal between the estate, studio and various other stakeholders, as well as the estimated budget entailed in production, can make it the most expensive series to reach the small screen. It may even outstrip the fortune spent on the creation of HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” The studio has been on the hunt for its own equivalent of “Game of Thrones.” It is going head to head with Netflix Inc, Hulu and others to bid for top content.
It is the biggest and most expensive move yet by the Amazon to draw viewers to its streaming and shopping club Prime. Amazon said it will produce a multi-season series that explores new storylines preceding author J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first installment in the famed fantasy trilogy.
Amazon Prime heads to Middle Earth,” Chief Executive Jeff Bezos tweeted that “Although “The Lord of the Rings” is the most famous work to emerge from Tolkien’s pen, he wrote much else, including prequel “The Hobbit” – also made into a movie trilogy by Jackson – and the denser “The Silmarillion”. The Amazon series will delve into some of Tolkien’s work that the movies did not explore.” What more we can expect now? Indeed it will be a complete collection of the series of movies as well as fantasies.
This will be an expensive deal. There are no further details about the Amazon project at this time, which is understandable.
