The world was taken aback when famous designer Kate Spade was found dead in her Manhattan apartment. To the people who don’t know who Kate Spade was, you guys must be living under a rock. She was a very famous handbag and fashion designer who unfortunately was taken away from us too soon. Today we are going to have a look at the fashion mogul’s life and how she established her name in the fashion industry.
Katherine Noel Brosnahan was born on 24th of December, 1962 in Missouri. She was professionally known as Kate Spade or Kate Valentine. After graduating in the degree of Journalism in the year 1985 from Arizona State University she joined ‘Mademoiselle’ in the year 1986 which basically became the first step for the fashion mogul in the establishment of her brand. She started over there in the accessories department where she was credited under the name Kate Brosnahan. She left Mademoiselle in the year 1991, with the title of senior head editor.
Making of Kate Spade
While she was working at Mademoiselle she realized how the market lacked the sense of good handbags. She felt as that there were not too many options which were good for women who wanted to buy good handbags. As a result, both Kate and her husband launched the brand “Kate Spade handbags” in the year 1993. The company in its initial days only focused on selling handbags but later on broadened its horizons and started selling more things like clothes, fragrances, shoes, baby items, bedding, and gifts. In the year 1996, Kate opened her first boutique in Manhattan’s SoHo district. In 1996, the Council of Fashion Designers of America awarded Spade “America’s New Fashion Talent in Accessories” for her classic designs. In 1998, CFDA again honored her for “Best Accessory Designer of the Year”.
There is not a shadow of a doubt that she was a truly amazing and creative artist that the world lost. She was married to Andy Spade and also had a daughter with him. Spade’s family in their public statement have asked for privacy in this hard time. The fashion industry will bemoan her death and she will leave a void in the hearts of millions of her fans and friends. The Council of Fashion Designers of America has paid tribute to Kate Spade, calling her “a great talent who had an immeasurable impact on American fashion”.
Today for the first time in my life I have started believing in the statement ‘appearances are deceptive in nature’. No matter how happy a person may appear on the outside, there could be anything that he/she must be dealing with on the inside. Often we try to judge the quality of life of a person by seeing what they have in their lives (mostly the materialistic happiness). It’s actually sad to think that the woman, who was believed to be one of the most creative people was depressed to such a great extent that she had no choice left but to take her own life. She left a note for her teenage daughter. To everyone reading this article let me tell you, suicide is never an option.
